Ed & family, disco and destiny

Ed (22), student, from Durham recommends „Le Freak: An Upside Down Story of Family, Disco, and Destiny“ by Nile Rodgers.

1. What is the book about?
The book gives a real insight into the harshness and severe levels of pain that Nile Rogers went through as a child and how he used to music to escape life at home but then also to create happiness to improve other people’s lives. It’s a real insight into the real life of a musician who made it to the top from nothing.

2. Why do you recommend the book?
I recommend the book to anyone interested in music and the musical lifestyle as he has worked with the best of the best throughout his career and he actually reveals lots of secrets from the elite circle of mega famous musicians.

3. You read the last sentence and finish the book. What stays?
What stays is the underlying sense of how you can completely dictate what you want to happen in your life if you take the time and effort to pursue your dreams.

4. What is your favorite passage?
My favourite passage is probably when he reveals that the song „Freak Out“ actually came from being chucked out of a club and saying fuck you to the bouncer. And a bit of a word change and it has become one of the biggest funk songs ever.
